That's right, oeuvre.
Anyway, today I got followed on @trollwolves by a band called Nifrost. Nifrost proclaim themselves to be "folkloric black metal". I'll have to take their word on that, because
1. I don't understand Norwegian, and
2. I was too busy flailing around like a motherfucker when I played one of their tracks to pay much attention to subtle nuances of musical genrification.
Note: "flailing around like a motherfucker" is code for "I enjoyed the song so much I pretended I was in a mosh pit by myself and may or may not have knocked over a moderately expensive vase".
This lady will punch you in the fucking neck.
So yeah. According to the E.M., Nifrost has been around since 2005 and have produced a couple of demos. They are currently unsigned, which, in my not so humble opinion, is a criminal oversight. Nifrost hits a lot of my buttons, especially the ones labeled "black metal", "motherfucker, flailing like a" and "mosh pit granny". BEHOLD:
Nifrost - "Ei Vinternatt"
The vocals are acidic, and there is enough chunky riffage to put me in mind of bands like Svarttjern. Also "chunky riffage" sounds like some kind of stew, probably with fermented bear meat and wolf nuts in it. Which Nifrost also makes me think of. Now I am hungry.
Nifrost - "Aatak"
Admittedly, Nifrost is probably only "folk" or "Viking" thanks to lyrical themes, which as previously mentioned I can't make out, but in cases like this I really don't give a shit. It triggers my flailing motherfucker reflex, and most times that's really all I ask. Nifrost still seems to be pretty active and their web page is pretty slick so I'm hoping there will be more to come from this NBM slaughterhouse. Now if you'll excise me, I need to visit my local wolf nuttery and get some stew fixins. CHUNKY RIFFAGE.
I kid you not. These are called wolf balls. There's a recipe.
